ABOUT US
Beverly Kozol-Tattlebaum is a former company president; a certified paralegal; and a licensed real-estate broker. She spent many years at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where she received the Infinite Mile Award for Excellence, and she currently teaches grades 9–12 at Stoughton High School.
A lifelong bird lover, Beverly was inspired by Paco—her extraordinary Amazon parrot whose ability to “speak” with clarity delighted both children and adults. Under New Wings: A Feathered Family was co-authored with her grandson, Benjamin R. Mallock, whose artwork brings Paco’s spirited personality to life on every page.
A proud member of the Massachusetts and National Audubon Societies, Beverly supports bird and wildlife conservation and encourages children to explore nature through stories and art. Her years at MIT also broadened her appreciation for the natural world, including an appreciation for ocean science.
Ben Mallock is the grandson of Beverly Kozol-Tattlebaum and the co-author and art director of Under New Wings: A Feathered Family.
While Ben was in college, his grandmother shared the story she was writing and invited him to join her as a creative partner. Their casual conversations soon turned into lively art-and-story sessions, and Ben discovered how much he enjoyed shaping Paco’s world.
With Beverly’s love of birds and Ben’s fresh artistic vision, the collaboration evolved naturally—a true team effort between two generations. Ben is proud to have helped bring his grandmother’s imaginative world to life through color, design, and storytelling.
Under New Wings: A Feathered Family is a tender, true-to-life tale reminding children that adoption doesn’t mean saying goodbye — it means love can grow in many places.
Inspired by my spirited Amazon parrot, this story is a celebration of love, belonging, and the beautiful ways families, dreams can take flight.

Q&A
It all began with Paco — a clever, spirited Amazon parrot who was part of our family. He had such a personality: playful, curious, and full of heart. I always said his story needed to be shared!
That love doesn’t have to live in just one home. Paco’s story shows children that even when life changes — when we move, grow up, or say goodbye for a while — love finds a way to follow us. Families come in all shapes, and hearts can stretch farther than wings.
It’s an incredible feeling. I tell my students every day to believe in themselves and follow their dreams. Now I get to show them I’m doing the same thing!
Seeing their excitement reminds me why I teach — to help them find their own voices and share what makes them special.
Kindness, curiosity, and the courage to keep believing in good things. Paco reminded me every day that love, in any form, makes life brighter — and that’s what I hope children remember long after they close the book.
